Kat(arina)
Hello! I'm Kat. I'm a rising Junior in Iowa with an interest in traveling abroad and learning new languages.

I have a lot of hobbies I enjoy doing, but I really love art, books, and exercise. Some of my favorite books would probably have to be Akira and anything related to true crime. My favorite artist is someone I follow on Instagram; Xiao Tong Kong. Her art is something I aspire to one day be able to draw like. I also enjoy lifting weights and going on jogs.
At school, I take a lot of mandatory classes like Math, Science, and English. We’re able to choose some of our own classes, so I like to choose classes that are related to the human mind (like psychology). We have six classes per trimester, but you can take classes outside of school at places like the community college or Grinnell College. Other than classes, we also have clubs/extracurricular activities like tennis and track. I played tennis last year and plan to do it again this year. I'm doing track this year as well and intend to dual sport between both with a preference in track. I haven’t really had any leadership positions before but I’m thinking about joining the student council my senior year.

We live in a small town, so it’s really easy for us to navigate it. But because it's so small, we don’t have a lot to do. On the weekends, we sometimes go to the big city, Des Moines or Iowa City, both of which are an hour or so away, to do fun activities like eating at a popular restaurant or going to Aldi or Target.
As you’ve heard before, I LOVE drawing. I think I’ve gotten decent at it since I have been doing it since I was very small. I don’t even know how I got into drawing, but it may be because I’m rather shy and prefer to be alone so I had downtime to learn to draw since I was usually by myself. This doesn’t mean I don’t have friends, though. I have a couple of friends I’m pretty close to and we like to hang out outside of school too. Honestly, whenever I have time I’m usually doodling on my schoolwork or on a paper with my friends in the back of the class (they like art too). I also enjoy reading. During the summer, I like to go to the local cafe and grab a drink while I sit for a couple hours just drawing and reading. I’ve only read one book over the summer, but I did start it rather late. I also went through sketchbooks super fast since I had so much time to myself!

I have a few ideas for my future, but I’m not super sure yet. I think I’m going to go into the psychology field and study to be either a physician or a psychologist.
